Meet the School Counselor

A letter from Miss White

Dear Midland families,

I joined the district as the Midland Middle School Counselor in July 2017. Although I grew up in Peoria, my mom graduated high school as a Mid-County Bulldog! My grandma, aunt, uncle, and cousins live in Lacon and Henry. I am fond of this community and look forward to working with you and your students!

At Illinois Wesleyan University, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Hispanic Studies. After graduation I worked as an Admission Counselor, helping students and their families navigate the college application process. My experience with high school and community college students taught me the importance of career exploration and transfer planning. In 2017 I graduated from Bradley University with my Master’s degree in Professional School Counseling. During my studies I completed internships at East Peoria Community High School and Bradley University’s Alcohol and Marijuana Intervention Program.

As part of MMS’ Dens courses, I will explore Character Education with small groups of students. I am excited for this opportunity to meet with 7th and 8th grade students outside of instructional time.

As a School Counselor, I perform the following roles in order to promote positive development in academic, career, and social/emotional domains:

  • Scheduling for the whole-school and individual students
  • Individual counseling
  • Small group counseling
  • Classroom guidance (i.e. Large group counseling)
  • Attend and participate in academic intervention meetings
  • Observe students in various school environments
  • Consult and collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, social workers, and students
  • Respond to school crises or emergency situations
  • Provide information and resources to parents on a variety of issues

Please take a moment to browse through the site to learn more about what your School Counselor is doing at Midland Middle School.

I am also the proud coach of the MMS Speech Team! We welcome 5th-8th graders who would like to try acting to join us for our fall season.

You can reach the Middle School Counselor by phone at (309) 469-3131 or e-mail: bwhite@midland-7.net.
